Spend a day making custom texturing hammers from used ball peen hammers. You will cut, grind, drill and etch the faces of hammers to achieve custom textures for your metalwork and jewelry. Repurposing used hammers will allow you to learn to refinish and restore the faces of the hammers as well.
This two-day workshop is designed to introduce alternative ways of finishing metal. Patination is a chemical process that is done with several different methods. We will explore heat-treating, immersion, sawdust transfer and spray applications. This course will include a slide presentation, demonstrations and hands on experience in developing your own patinas. You will leave with samples to take back to your studio to inspire your metalwork and jewelry.
This workshop is an introduction to forming sheet metal for the Enamelist or anyone interested in expanding their metalworking skills in a 3-dimensional aspect. This 2-day workshop will start with some basic forming processes using sandbags, wood dies and forming tools. The annealing process with be covered and emphasized since it is the key for shaping metal. This workshop will also offer the chance to experience sheet metal tools used by industry for shaping metal. These tools will include box and pan brake, bead rollers and metal spinning lathe.
